Kelly Hogan joined Iron And Wine to perform on late night TV for the second time this month. This time Hogan was there to sing backing vocals on “Low Light Buddy Of Mine” and “Caught In The Briars/Sundown,” a special bonus track from the latest Iron And Wine album Ghost on Ghost. IS THIS FANTASY PUBLIC RADIO, OR WHAT? American Public Media’s radio show “Wits“ is hosting Kelly Hogan, comedian Rob Delaney, and Hogan bandmate, Neko Case at their sold-out May 10 show at St. Paul’s Fitzgerald Theatre.

After a quick and quiet kitchen table rehearsal with Sam Beam in Austin, TX during this year’s SXSW Music Festival, Kelly Hogan (and Nora O’Connor) joined Iron And Wine at ACL Live at the Moody Theater for the band’s official SX showcase. Beautiful sounds.
So, of course the next step is to perform with the band on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon on Friday, April 26. Check your local listing for showtime.

Kelly Hogan and Nora O’Connor join Iron and Wine at SXSW. Here’s their new one, Ghost On Ghost.
Kelly Hogan and solo artist/Hogan bass player Nora O’Connor will join Iron & Wine for singing at their SXSW Showcase at ACL Live at the Moody Theater on March 13th. The showcase’s super totally awesome line-up also includes Natalie Maines, Dawes, Lord Huron and Family of The Year, and begins at 7:45pm Wednesday with Iron & Wine’s set at 11pm.

Program your smartphones, we’ve got the lowdown on Kelly Hogan’s appearances at this year’s SXSW Music Conference in beautiful Austin, TX. Hogan’s official SXSW showcase is Midnight on Tuesday, March 12 (technically the 13th…) at the Central Presbyterian Church. This Nature Conservancy/Anti- showcase will also feature Parkington Sisters, Sean Rowe, The Milk Carton Kids, Ryan Bingham, and Gaby Moreno.
On Thursday, March 14, Austin City Limits and ACL Live at the Moody Theater host Bloody Mary Morning at ACL Live at the Moody Theater. Hogan will open the show. Cure your hangover the SXSW way with a Bloody Mary, live music and breakfast tacos, then head down south to the Broken Spoke for Hogan’s 2pm set at the Twangfest Party. Catch her later in the afternoon at the Gingerman (4:45pm-ish) for an event curated by Hogan buddy Jon Langford.
Visit the Four Seasons’ lobby on Saturday morning March 16 at 8am for Kelly’s live set for KUT’s Live Broadcast. If that’s too early for you to be out of bed, tune in to KUTX at 98.9. Later in the day, after a nap, Hogan will perform at one of 6th Street’s biggest venues, The Stage on Sixth, for the HGTV/Paste Party at 2:30pm. The party’s 4-day lineup includes some of the festivals most exciting veteran performers like Josh Ritter, Billy Bragg, and The Zombies, along with some promising newcomers such as Foxygen, The Lone Bellow, and GUARDS. It’s been a banner year for Kelly Hogan. After the June release of her latest full-length, I Like To Keep Myself In Pain (Anti), Hogan toured supporting the likes of Andrew Bird, Neko Case, Mavis Staples, and Magnetic Fields and did duty on a slew of headlining performances, too. NOW!!!!!… she’s gracing a bazillion year-end “Best of” lists, and naturally, we’re thrilled. We know the praise is well-deserved.
The Los Angeles Times ranked Pain an impressive #2 on their year-end list, and celebrated her talent commenting that “the star is always Hogan’s voice, a casual, inviting instrument.” Paste Magazine christened Hogan a “musical omnivore” and slotted her at #49 of their 50 best. And Hogan’s adopted hometown of Chicago brought Top 10 love for Pain with accolades from Sound Opinions’ Jim DeRogatis (#2) and Greg Kot (also of the Chicago Tribune, #5), RedEye (#6), and the Chicago Sun-Times (#9).
Tribute continued for Hogan’s country soul album with a no. 8/10 in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, a no. 2/10 on the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle, a no. 10/10 on The Midnight Wire, a no. 20/25 in Slant Magazine, a no. 25/25 on Pop Underground, and a no. 40/50 on AllMusic’s year-end list. WOWIE!
Hogan recorded I Like To Keep Myself In Pain at the famed East/West Studio in Los Angeles, where Frank Sinatra, among many others, laid beauty down. With a band of huge talent including R&B legends Booker T Jones, James Gadson (Bill Withers, Beck), Gabriel Roth (Dap-Kings), and Scott Ligon (of the newly resurrected NRBQ), she made her own versions of songs written specifically for her by musical luminaries including Vic Chesnutt, The Magnetic Fields, The Mekons’ Jon Langford, The Handsome Family, Freakwater’s Catherine Irwin, John Wesley Harding, Robbie Fulks, Gabriel Roth, Robyn Hitchcock, M. Ward and the aforementioned Andrew Bird.
As expected, Hogan’s gonna kick 2013 in the guts with more performances – in and around her new-ish homestead in Wisconsin, including two performances in one evening at the historic Green Mill (in Chicago’s Uptown neighborhood) on February 1. First set starts at 9pm. Don’t be silly.
